Paper

Paper has been collected for many years because it can be used again and again. Office paper and old newspapers can be turned into new products, but only when sorted from your other waste.

When you dispose of paper, it is important that it is clean and dry.

National criteria

To ensure that waste sorting is more or less the same throughout Denmark, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency has created the national criteria below.

 

PERMITTED

Principles:

  • High degree of recyclability and quality                 

Examples:

  • Newspapers
  • Advertising material
  • Print
  • Magazines
  • Brochures
  • Printer paper
  • Envelopes with or without windows
  • Receipts
  • Paper bags (clean and dry) 

FORBIDDEN

Principles:

  • Can contain undesirable substances such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)
  • Give problems when collecting

Examples:

  • Plastic wrapping and films
    (at the recycling centre as plastic)
     
  • Wet/dirty paper in your garbage bin as residual waste
     
  • Wrapping paper and ribbons
    (in your garbage bin as residual waste)
     
  • Books
    (at the recycling centre)
     
  • Baking paper, cake cups etc.
    (in your garbage bin as residual waste)
     
  • Reinforced paper, e.g. flour and porridge oat bags
    (in your garbage bin as residual waste)
