Waste sorting in holiday homes
Food and beverage cartons
Food and beverage cartons are packaging cartons that have contained food. They typically consist of different layers of materials that can be recycled. The majority of the carton can be recycled - not into new food and beverage cartons, but into other types of packaging board/cardboard.
When you put the cartons in the recycling bin, they must be scraped clean and be drip-free. It is allowed to put the cartons in a bag with a good knot. This way, odours are minimised.
National criteria
To ensure that waste sorting is more or less the same throughout Denmark, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency has created the national criteria below.
PERMITTED
Principles:
- Cardboard packaging that also contains
other material types such as plastic and/or metal
Examples:
- Milk and yoghurt cartons or the like.
- Drink cartons, e.g. juice and cordials etc.
- Food cartons, e.g. skinned tomatoes, beans etc.
FORBIDDEN
Principles:
- Items that do not have cardboard as their main constituent part
Examples:
- Pizza boxes
(in your dustbin as residual waste)
- Disposable cups and other plastic-coated cardboard
(in your garbage bin as residual waste)
- Bags made of various materials for food
(in your garbage bin as residual waste unless otherwise stated) e.g. coffee and crisp bags
Find the nearest recycling station
If you have more waste from food and beverage cartons than you can fit in the bin, you can also drop off leftover waste at a recycling station.
