Cardboard

Cardboard is a resource that can be used again and again. Cardboard boxes and cardboard packaging can be turned into new products.

When disposing of cardboard, it is important that it is clean and dry. Any plastic film and styrofoam residues must be removed before disposing of cardboard.

National criteria

To ensure that waste sorting is more or less the same throughout Denmark, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency has created the national criteria below.

 

PERMITTED 

Principles:

  • High degree of recyclability and quality
  • Clean, dry cardboard                       

Examples:

  • Cardboard boxes
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Cardboard packaging
  • Cardboard packaging from foods and products
  • Shoe boxes
  • Cardboard tubes from kitchen and toilet rolls
  • Cartons
  • Egg boxes (clean and dry)

FORBIDDEN

Principles:

  • Containing undesirable substances
  • Give contamination problems when collecting
  • Contain impurities such as food leftovers

Examples:

  • Plastic wrapping and films
    (at the recycling centre as plastic)
     
  • Wet/dirty cardboard in your garbage bin as residual waste
     
  • Books
    (at the recycling centre)
     
  • Wrapping paper
    (in your garbage bin as residual waste)
     
  • Expanded polystyrene
    (at the recycling centre)
     
  • Pizza boxes
    (in your garbage in as residual waste)
     
  • Audio greeting cards
    (at the recycling centre in the environmental box)
     
  • Disposable cups and other plastic-coated cardboard
    (in your garbage bin as residual waste)
     
  • Food and beverage cartons
    (in your recycling bin as food and beverage cartons).
